2013 PBZ Zagreb Indoors Overview

The PBZ Zagreb Indoors was this year’s first stop on the ATP World Tour. Hosted in Zagreb, Croatia, the tournament took place from February 2 until February 10, 2013. Played indoors on a hard court, the PBZ Zagreb Indoors hosted games with players from Croatia, Italy, Russia, Austria, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Cyprus. The event consisted of men’s singles and men’s doubles matches, and over $629,000 in total prize money was up for grabs.

The singles main draw entrants in the 2013 PBZ Zagreb Indoors included Marin Čilić, Mikhail Mikhailovich Youzhny, Jürgen Melzer, Martin Kližan, Marcos Baghdatis, Grigor Dimitrov, and Lukáš Lacko.

Wildcard entrants for the singles main draw included Nikola Mektić, Mate Pavić, and Antonio Veić. Veić’s receiving of the wildcard caused an upset in the tennis world as he beat ex-Top 10 player Guillermo Ignacio Cañas.

Marin Čilić, the overall singles winner of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors is a resident of Monaco, though he represented Croatia at the tournament. At 24, he has been playing tennis professionally since 2005. He is the first three-time titlist in the PBZ Zagreb Indoors. Other highlights of his career include finishing in the top 20 and winning two titles for the third time in four years. He is currently ranked 12th overall in singles. So far in 2013, he has managed to win over $188,000 in prize money from his matches.

Robert Lindstedt is a Swedish tennis player who resides in London. At 35, he is a seasoned tennis player who has been competing professionally since 1998. He has been teaming with Horia Tecau for four seasons, and is currently ranked 9th overall in doubles.

Horia Tecau is a Romanian tennis player who is currently ranked 8th overall in doubles. At 28, he has been playing tennis professionally since 2003. His career high ranking is 5th.
