Lake Forest Park, Washington

Lake Forest Park is one of the first planned communities in Seattle.

Lake Forest Park can be found north of Seattle and is part of King County. It is an unusual city in that there are no industrial areas and only a tiny percentage of the land is zoned commercial. It was designed to be a ‘bedroom community’ with most of the buildings developed to be single-family housing. The population is over 12,000 and great emphasis has been placed on maintaining the natural beauty of the area.

It is one of the first planned communities in Seattle and was founded by A.H. Reid and Ole Hanson in 1912. Lake Forest Park was created to be an area of natural beauty where professionals could live. The city was incorporated in 1961, but the population remained below 5,000 until the 1990s when the city’s borders increased, thus doubling the population in a short space of time

Saint Edward State Park is located close to Lake Forest Park and covers over 300 acres with approximately 3,000 feet of freshwater shoreline along Lake Washington. This park was previously a Catholic seminary and has a rich history, which can be seen in its architecture. It is the perfect location for a nature study.

Amaurice Cellars is a vineyard that is just a few miles from Lake Forest Park and is the perfect location for wine creation, as it is protected from frosts that damage other nearby areas. Around 15,000 vines are planted each year with Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec wines produced from the area.
