The Pacific Northwest

The city of Seattle is a vital part of the Pacific Northwest.

Pacific Northwest (PNW) is a huge area near the western coast of the United States with the Rocky Mountains in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west. The PNW area compromises the states of Washington, Oregon, and British Colombia, a Canadian province. There are several major cities in this region, including the Portland metro area, Vancouver in British Colombia, and Seattle in Washington state. Seattle is the biggest city in PNW and has a population of over 600,000; with the metro area home to almost 4 million people.

PNW is known as one of the ‘greenest’ areas in the United States with three of its cities ranked in the top 10 greenest cities in the nation (Portland, Eugene, and Seattle). The city of Seattle is known for its immense impact on the world of music, with notable local artists including Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and the Foo Fighters all originating in the city.

Seattle is also known as one of the main ‘gateway’ cities in PNW, as it is a cultural, commercial, and transportation hub with a stunning skyline. If you wish to take a trip outside the city to view the natural wonders of PNW, there are a host of guided tours that take you to the breathtaking Cascade Mountains, Sun Juan Islands, and Olympic Mountains. If you fancy a ‘foreign’ adventure, British Colombia in Canada is a quick trip away. PNW provides you with all the amenities found in big cities, but gives you a vast number of opportunities to ‘get away from it all’.
