USTA National Men’s 35 Hard Court Championships – Preparations

Apr 20, 2016 by

This tournament was hosted at Scottsdale Athletic Club for more than 2 decades.  I worked the front desk at Scottsdale Athletic Club almost that long ago and watched several of the matches.  As luck would have it, I even got a chance to play one of the players who lost in the first round of the main draw and the back draw.  He didn’t win a set in the tournament and he didn’t lose a set to me.

To give a little better prospective on the type of player that registers for this event, the 2014 champion, Josh Oswald, played ITF and ATP tournaments for 6 years (1995 – 2001).  The 2015 champion, Jeff Williams, reached a ranking of 896 in the world.

After a long wait to compete in this tournament, the first round matches start tomorrow!  All first round matches will be played at 5pm.  You can follow the tournament results using the link below.  I intend to post regular updates each day of the tournament.

IMG_1672[1]In preping for the first round I visited Dr. Derakhshani at the Healing Joint for a little relaxation treatment!  Wonderful office and staff, if you happen to be in the Scottsdale area and would like a sports massage you can best schedule an appointment at www.thehealingjoint.com.  Rackets have also been dropped off at the PGA Store to be taken care of by USRSA stringing professionals!
